Bahl Fireproofing opened in 1977 as a fireproofing subcontractor in Central Texas and has stayed in the trade since. We self-perform spray-applied fireproofing, intumescent coatings, K-13, spray foam and Core-Fill on our own crews and our own equipment across six states today, and New Mexico is next.

What the code situation actually is in New Mexico
The 2021 New Mexico Commercial Building Code, 14.7.2 NMAC, adopts the 2021 IBC as amended, effective 14 July 2023, administered by the Construction Industries Division. New Mexico does not amend IBC Chapter 7 or the special inspection provisions at 1705.14, so spray-applied fire-resistive materials and their inspection are the 2021 IBC as written. Energy is the 2021 IECC under 14.7.9 NMAC. The state code is a minimum floor: Albuquerque runs its own Uniform Administrative Code and permits through the city, and Santa Fe layers a Green Building Code on top.
New Mexico dropped the IECC county table and wrote its own Table C301.2 keyed to location and elevation instead. Zones 3B through 7B in one state: Las Cruces and Carlsbad 3B, Albuquerque 4B, Santa Fe and Farmington 5B, Taos Ski Valley 7B. Elevation, not latitude, is what moves the number.
What it takes to work in New Mexico
We put this in writing because a subcontractor who is vague about their standing in a state is a subcontractor you have to check up on.
GS-1 Acoustical insulation and insulation, Construction Industries Division. New Mexico licenses by classification, and GS-1 names insulation, urethane foam, sound control and fireproofing in the same scope, which covers SFRM, K-13 and spray foam in one class. Urethane applied as a roof system is a separate classification and is not our scope. Our application is with the division.
Licensing in progress with the Construction Industries Division. We open in 2027. Until then we are reading drawings, pricing scope and building the schedule so the first New Mexico job runs like the hundredth.
The listed system at the specified thickness, readings logged as we go, and a closeout package the special inspector can work from. That standard travels with the crew, and it is the same one running in Texas since 1977.

You can be in Zone 3B and Zone 7B in the same state, an hour and a half apart. New Mexico knew that and wrote its own zone table around elevation instead of using the county list. A spec that came off an Albuquerque job does not automatically work in Farmington. Read the table.

Can I get a number from you before you open?
Yes, for work that bids into 2027 and later. Send the drawings and the spec sections. What we will not do is promise you a mobilization date we cannot stand behind.
Do you sub the work out in a new state?
No. Our own crews and our own equipment travel. That is the whole point of the way this company is built, and it is why the install standard does not change at a state line.
What states do you work in?
Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Arizona, Minnesota and Wisconsin, out of Round Rock, Texas. We travel for the right project and we are prequalified with national and regional general contractors across the territory.
Are you prequalified, bonded and insured?
Yes. We carry commercial general liability, auto, workers compensation and umbrella coverage, and we go through GC prequalification regularly. Send us your prequal packet and insurance requirements with the bid documents and we will return them completed.
